Free Website SEO Analysis Report

Many have been asking how Bing will effect their SEO efforts or what can they do to get their website to rank highly in this new search engine.

Microsoft recently released a whitepaper that answers these questions. Below I have highlighted some of the major points of this document. (all items in quotes are directly from Bing)

How does bing change seo?

“Ultimately, SEO is still SEO. Bing doesn’t change that. Bing’s new user interface design simply adds new opportunities to searchers to find what the information they want more quickly and easily, and that benefits webmasters who have taken the time to work on the quality of their content and web design.”

“If anything, SEO is all the more important as an opportunity to help your website stand out from the crowd. In fact, well done SEO can expand your opportunities with Bing.”

What are some of the SEO fundamentals Bing uses?

“Search engine optimization (SEO) has three fundamental pillars upon which successful optimization campaigns are run. Like a three-legged stool, take one away, and the whole thing fails to work. The SEO pillars include: content, links and last but not least, site architecture. You can have great content and a plethora of high quality inbound links from authority sites, but if your site’s structure is flawed or broken, then it will still not achieve the optimal page rank you desire from search engines.”

How else can I help my site get more Bing traffic?

One of the most basic things a webmaster can do to increase their Bing traffic is…
“adding unique titles and meta descriptions to each page. If webmasters don’t provide search engines with good, keyword-oriented, well written caption source data, the resulting captions created by the algorithm, no matter how hard we try, won’t represent your website as well as those websites whose webmasters did provide this unique and important data.”

“Be sure to include the full URL of your website’s sitemap.xml file at the end of this line:
www.mysite.com/sitemap.xml”

Other Bing Tips: (as seen here)

  • Use descriptive file and directory names.
  • Limit directory depth.
  • Limit physical page file size.
  • Externalize on-page JavaScript and CSS code.
  • Use 301 redirects for moved pages.

One Response to “How Does Bing Effect My SEO Efforts?”

  1. Jodie says:

It’s nice to have Bing publicly comment on its SEO as openly as this when recently a employee of google had said that “SEO Specialists” were essentially ripoffs. Way to go Bing! I’ve been getting some hits to my sites from this platform so I’m all for it.
